warm weather skin care

Warmer weather is a great time to update your skin care

Have you been enjoying more time in the garden with our nicer weather? Are you getting outside more by running? Are you starting to think about summertime and trips to the beach or the lake or even vacations to the Caribbean? Now is a good time to continue treating the skin from the winter months with continued hydrating treatments such as hand facials, foot facials, body polishes and facials. Did you know that starting treatments early is more beneficial to the skin than waiting for an issue to arise? That’s right!  It’s hard to reverse damage once it’s done.  Those issues can be dry cracked heels, redness, itching, pigmentation and general irritation of the skin.

You should be caring for the skin year-round with of course SPF30 daily as well as proper hydration. Look for products that contain Shea butter, avocado oil, sunflower seed oil, jojoba oil, goat milk and even lactic acid which is a derivative of milk. All of these ingredients or even some when combined together benefit the skin in many ways. The first being lactic acid provides a very gentle but hydrating exfoliation to the skin. When you follow this  exfoliator with a lotion that contains any of the above ingredients, this provides the much-needed moisture that the skin is craving after it’s exfoliation. So even though lactic acid can be a somewhat hydrating acid, you would still want to use an additional moisturizer over top.

This is especially beneficial on the heels. Feet typically have dry, thick cracked skin which is in need of gentle exfoliation but hydration as well. So avoid using the sugar and salt body scrubs as they can actually cause micro tears in the skin which are actually defeating the purpose of caring for the skin.  For the feet, it mainly dries out the skin more because when the skin reaches this point (cracked) it has no more moisture left.
